Since 1967, National Service has contributed greatly to building up Singapore's defence. Male Singaporeans are trained to become disciplined, fighting-fit soldiers.

With public housing and national defence firmly in place, Singapore proceeds to develop itself as a young nation.

A new currency went into circulation on June 1967 while Singapore Airlines soared into the skies for the first time in 1972.

And in 1987, the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) began operating, giving Singaporeans another mode of transport.
