The education
system in Singapore has seen many changes
through the years -- like the introduction of
streaming and National Education.
One
significant feature of the education system
was the emphasis on bilingualism. In the
1970s, the Government decided to promote the
use of Mandarin as the common language for
the Chinese by launching the "Speak More
Mandarin, Use Less Dialects" campaign.
