THE Housing Board is to experiment, over
the next decade, with a new concept for its
future estates, based on a cluster of
buildings to form a precinct with its own
design identity.
This is to meet the rising expectations of
people for quality living says the latest
issue of Our Home, a publication of HDB and
JTC flat owners.
Under the next plan, more varied heights
between building blocks will be introduced,
as in the new Bedok town centre which is
under construction.
There will be emphasis on distinct
identities for the various new HDB estates
through the use of colour schemes,
elevational treatment and types of building
materials used.
To achieve this, the HDB is working
closely with various government agencies, Our
Home says.
It adds that for the next decade, the
HDB's plans will have both "a
qualitative and quantitative dimension."
So far, three five-year building
programmes of the HDB have been completed,
totalling 223,000 units. The HDB is now
midway through its fourth five-year plan
which will see another 125,000 to 150,000
units being built to satisfy the demand for
public housing.
