THE Housing Board plans to build 90,000
bigger and better flats over the next five
years.
Most of these flats will be four-room,
five-room and executive flats, said its
chairman, Mr Hsuan Owyang, in the board's
annual report which was released yesterday.
In his statement, he said the HDB took
into account the demand for flats in its
booking system introduced in 1989 when
setting its target.
He said the board will stay more
responsive to changes in demand for flats and
changing tastes for better quality housing
with a wider variety in designs.
The annual report added that demand for
flats has remained vibrant.
The board received 36,627 applications for
flats in its financial year 1990/91. About
30,600 were requests to buy flats while about
5,950 were applications for rental flats.
Four-room flats remained the top choice,
with 45.3 per cent of buyers applying for
them. Five-room flats were the next popular
choice (32 per cent), followed by executive
flats (22.7 per cent), said the report.
