Headlines, Lifelines
Q1: What is Headlines, Lifelines?
A1: Headlines, Lifelines is a
National Education multimedia resource developed by
The Electric New Paper for access in schools. The
Internet website, when used together with a CD-ROM,
provides an interesting insight into Singapore's
history. It contains newspaper articles, games, audio
and video clips.
Q2: I am not a subscriber. How do
I sign up for Headlines, Lifelines?
A2: You can call our reseller, Ms
Annie Tan (E.magination Pte Ltd) at 339-9732 or e-mail her. A subscription lasting till Mar
31, 2001, costs $412 (for primary and secondary
schools) and $824 (for polytechnics and
universities). Currently, the subscription is only
open to schools. Alteratively, you can fill up this
subscription form. Or call The Electric New Paper at
730-5176.
Section B: Logging
into Headlines, Lifelines
Q3: How do I get into Headlines,
Lifelines?
A3: Follow these steps:
1. Insert the
Headlines, Lifelines CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive.
2. Run your Web
browser. Use Netscape Communicator 4.04 (or higher)
or Internet Explorer 4.0 (or higher). Click here if
you don't have the correct version.
3. Go to the
Headlines, Lifelines website by entering the address:
ourstory.asia1.com.sg.
4. Click on the
"Enter" graphic on the first screen.
5. On the next screen,
click on the "Identify yourself" link.
Enter your User-ID and password in the pop-up window.
6. Next, enter your
CD-ROM drive letter eg. D or E.
7. You will then see
an image of the CD-ROM cover and a start button.
Clicking on the start button will bring you to the
welcome page of Headlines, Lifelines where you can
begin your exploration.
Q4: I can't see the image with the
"Start" button which I am supposed to click
to continue.
A4: You may have forgotten to
insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive or have set the
CD-ROM drive incorrectly. Please check and start
again. Another reason could be that you have not
downloaded the Macromedia Shockwave plug-in. You can
download the plug-in here and start again.
Q5: I've forgotten my password!
What can I do?
A5: You can do a look-up of your
password here. Please call our Help Desk at 730-5268,
Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm, if you are still having problems
logging on.
Q6: I don't remember my User-ID.
What can I do?
A6: You can do a look-up of your

Q7: I'm exploring Headlines,
Lifelines. Why does a particular page look garbled
and/or misaligned?
A7:
Please
press the "Reload" or "Refresh"
button on your browser and see if the page looks
normal now.
Q8: Why do I get the message that
the host is down or unable to connect to the proxy
server?
A8: The Internet server of your
Internet Service Provider (eg. CyberWay, SingNet,
Pacific Internet) may be down. Call the Help Desk of
your ISP or try again at a later time.
Q9: Why can't I play audio or
video clips?
A9: Check to see if you have the
RealPlayer plug-in software for viewing audio or
video clips. If not, click here to download plug-in. If you have
already installed the plug-in software and have just
run a few videos and are now facing problems with
running a video, try clearing the cache and try
again.
Q10: Why can't I run the games?
A10: Check to see if you have the
Macromedia Shockwave plug-in for running the games.

Q11: I am encountering difficulties
running the photo bubble. What should I do?
A11: Check to see if you have the
IPIX plug-in software for running the photo bubble.
If not, click here to download plug-in.
Q12: Why is my system unusually
slow?
A12: You may have too many
applications running at the same time. Try closing
down some of the applications and see if the system
is faster. If this doesn't work, you may need to shut
down the PC and boot up again.
Q13: How come my computer is not
responding to anything I type?
A13: Shut down your PC and boot up
again.
