Excerpt from report
More
arrests are expected today following the detention of
35 people, including five leading members of the
People's Action Party, by the Singapore police.
In a
White Paper issued yesterday evening explaining its
action, the Government charged that in recent months
the Communists had been successful in gaining control
of the PAP and were posing a threat to public
security.
... The
five PAP leaders who were arrested were all members
of the "leftist" group which only 10 days
ago took over the leadership of the party.
It is evident that once again a
serious threat is developing. Communists and their
agents are back in key positions... If the situation
is allowed to deteriorate, it will become
increasingly difficult to check the threat, and
decisive action will be resisted with consequent
rioting and bloodshed.
