Excerpt from report
The Singapore Government won at least
725 allies among Chinese middle school students
yesterday morning when it closed the Chinese High
School and the Chung Cheng High School.
... The six students also handed the
Minister (for Education) a letter written in Chinese,
giving details of how they had been prevented from
concentrating on their studies by
Communist-indoctrinated leaders of the dissolved
Chinese Middle School Students' Union.
... "They said they were willing to
enrol immediately for the temporary classes we are
opening as soon as possible in Government schools for
pupils from the two middle schools." (Mr Chew
Swee Kee, Minister for Education)
The
recent events have clearly shown
that the present troubles have been created because
of
political rivalry. The Government is trying to
undermine the
support of a certain political party, so that they
can be
sure of being elected again.
