The
Legislative Assembly will debate a motion tomorrow by
the Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, seeking a vote
of confidence in the Government ...
... The
Legislative Assembly this morning passed a vote of
confidence in the Government after the Prime
Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, had accused the UK
Commission of plotting with the Communist Left to
overthrow it.
When the
division was taken at 3.50 am, 27 members voted with
the Government, 8 against and 16 abstained. Those who
abstained were 13 PAP members and three of the Ong
Eng Guan group.
The eight
who voted against the Government were members of the
Alliance and Mr David Marshall.

Throughout the 13-hour emergency
sitting, the Government and the leadership of the
ruling PAP were attacked repeatedly by Opposition
speakers and its own backbenchers, including two
parliamentary secretaries Dr Sheng Nam Chin and Dr
Lee Siew Choh.
